Responsibilities
Safety System Management
- Provide technical and administrative direction on safety and health policies and programs with staff and within the EHS team.
- Support the implementation of any new safety programs/initiatives, ensuring such programs meet or exceed all governmental regulations, and ensure company-wide adherence to all programs
- Assist in the preparation and participate in audits such COR and/or Owner audits.
Project support
- Report on dangerous working conditions and forward the report and recommendations to senior Corporate EHS manager for redress
- Ensure implementation of the correct safety policies and procedures both in the office and active work sites
- Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance
Internal Reporting, Development and Support
- Provide support to the assigned project teams, assisting with the preparation of all safety submittals, and informing the project management team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project
- Facilitate training programs on safety measures.
External Bodies and Government Authorities
- Represent the company in meetings with government bodies and other agencies on matters regarding workplace health and safety
- Liaise with external parties such as government-employed inspectors to facilitate evaluation of construction sites
- Liaise with these agencies for regular updates on legal regulations and program initiatives on workplace safety and environmental issues
WSIB Claims Management
- Assist the Human Resources department, as required, with claims from investigation through the return to work process.
- Work with Human Resources and project management to ensure injured workers are offered modified duties.
Requirements
- College, University degree or equivalent experience in a related discipline
- Applicable professional designation i.e. NCSO, CRSP etc.
- 5+ years’ experience in a construction safety management role
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
- Computer literacy, including fluency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook)
- Strong preference will be given to candidates with Viewpoint construction software experience
