The Health and Safety Coordinator supports and implements the EHSE policies and procedures for the company, ensuring adherence to OHSA regulations. The program manager has to have broad knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations, and all pertinent environmental regulations.

Core Competencies

  • Report on dangerous working conditions and forward the report and recommendations to senior Corporate EHS manager for redress
  • Ensure implementation of the correct safety policies and procedures both in the office and active work sites
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance
  • Ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to: Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current
  • Ensure incident corrective actions are followed-up on and completed.
  • Participate and assist the supervisors, foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions where necessary, and report findings to senior corporate EHSE management

Internal Reporting, Development and Support

  • Provide support to the assigned project teams, assisting with the preparation of all safety submittals, and informing  the project management team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project
  • Facilitate training programs on safety measures.
  • Provide direction, support, and resources to assigned site managers, supervisors and foremen
  • Communicate, coach, and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met
  • Motivate employees to maintain high levels of participation

Requirements

  • College, University degree or equivalent experience in a related discipline
  • Applicable professional designation i.e. NCSO, CRSP etc.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a construction safety management role
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy, including fluency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook)
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with Viewpoint construction software experience
